I remember years ago seeing a piece about the parable of the Good Samaritan, which emphasized that we had lost the sense of this appellation, which would be comparable in “our times” ( the ‘60s or so ) to the parable of the Compassionate Klansman, since “Samaritan” carried the same sort of odium in the original that “Klansman” did at that time.
