Roseville man ticketed for warming up car in driveway loses case ($128 fine - Detroit area)
Detroit Metro Times ^ | 4/21/2017 | Jack Roskopp

Remember that guy from Roseville who posted a photo on Facebook of a ticket he received for warming up his car in his own driveway? Mind you, this happened back in January in the dead of winter.

The Facebook post went viral and the city of Roseville received criticism on why leaving your car running in a private driveway would warrant a ticket.

Turns out, the city of Roseville has an ordinance against leaving your car running while unattended. Reports also note that Taylor Trupiano, the man who got the ticket, ran inside to help his girlfriend and her 2-year-old son get to the car.

After hearing all that, Judge Marco Santia backed up the cop who gave the citation, noting that Trupiano's car was accessible to the public and "I think it was reasonable the officer issued the ticket."

Seriously, Roseville? Look, I get that a rule is a rule, but you're really going to make this guy pay $128 because he was trying to be a nice guy and warm his car up for his girlfriend and her son? Your cops don't have better things to do than give out absurd citations?

Well, we suppose that you've been warned, citizens of Roseville. Just think twice come this summer and it's 90 degrees out and you want to cool down your car before you get on in.

“Amazingly, Detroit crime rates have dropped...”

Yes, and isn’t it amazing? Murder rates are way down, arson is almost nonexistent, whodathunkit? Oh, you’re talking about THAT Detroit? Never mind.

Perhaps there would be fewer auto thefts if the cops were focusing their efforts on car thieves instead of innocent citizens trying to warm up their cars.

In Hayward CA it`s against the law to repair your car in your driveway. So neighbors just switch driveways. Stupoid Haywired CA law.

Seen many cop cars idleing while unattended-ambulances(at the ER drop off) and fire trucks too!!!!

...

Sometimes they get stolen, but not often for what should be obvious reasons.

I have been warming up unattended cars in driveways and even public streets for 60 years——I never even got a nasty comment, and certainly not a ticket.

Think its got more to do with leaving an unattended care running vs just idling or long lights would fall into your catagory.

Now maybe if he told the court it was locked while he was inside and didn’t bad mouth the cop he may have made out mo better

So does almost every municipality.

Thats what my ticket should have been for not illegal parking and will be my defense in court:

If my car was stolen while unattended and idling in my driveway, you know what? I would never leave my car unattended and idling in my driveway again.

Car thieves around that area will steal every car that isn’t chained down to the pavement. They will steal your car out of your driveway with a tow truck if it’s a valuable model.

The cops are powerless to stop it. Your car is long gone before they ever show up.

Well, in that case you must do your civic duty:

So what if you’re defrosting your windshield when its 10 degrees out, you’re supposed to sit inside the whole time?

People spend more time in the morning idling at the drive through at mcdonalds..... Funny how they never hand out tickets there...

Reading comprehension is not your strong suit. The ticket was for leaving the car unattended while it was running. Do people at the drive-thru at the McDonalds leave their car unattended? Didn't think so.
