Completely agree. These aren't WWII carriers, and even those could survive multiple hits. Hell, a WWII carrier survived a near nuclear hit (Operation Crossroad) and the another WWII carrier in the same operation took an almost direct strike (450yds from center of underwater (90 ft) detonation) and stayed a float for more than 7 hours before sinking from leaks. The carrier that sunk was also hit and severally damaged previously in the first nuke test of the operation.

I suspect that our modern CVNs are fully capable of taking a lot more damage before they go down.

Technically the USN did not sink any IJN air craft carriers at Midway.

That was CV-3 Saratoga.She really took alot of damage before she went under.I hear that on days when the sea is clear that you can see her forward flightdeck while flying over her.At least she is not 3 miles down like her sister Lexington.
