Deeply stupid book.

If it had been written as a cautionary tale about Islam, it might have some value, but as a slam against Christianity and the Christian view of women, it is just moronic.

Exactly! I read it a few decades ago. Thought it was a stupid premise in that it happened to only the US and the rest of the world was still “normal”.

And if I remember correctly, the catalyst was that some disease caused most American women to be sterile, and this was the cultural response.

Atwood seems like a confused feminist. Either that, or some feminists may have hijacked her novel and repurposed it for their own ideology. Tough to figure out.

If this type of dystopian culture arises it will be from the atheistic left, not from the Christian right. No one else in our modern society so epitomizes the suppression of rights and freedom, nor longs so deeply for the “right” to control the lives of others or eradicate those who disagree with them.
