I actually believe that some businesses’ main source of profit is based on selling email addresses.
And if you hit an “unsubscribe” button you’re acknowledging that it’s a valid email address that gets checked by a real person, so it’ll get sold and resold as a “verified” email that spam companies drool over. Best to just delete them. If you have a “block sender” function that may help.
And that's if you're lucky. If you're unlucky, clicking on "unsubscribe" will direct you to a web site that will attack your machine.
