I tried watching the TV adaptation of Gaiman’s book American Gods. Unbelievably uninteresting, getting a filling would be more entertaining how anyone can argue that this guy is a SciFi or fantasy genius is beyond me! No interest in reading his books, walking past his books, standing next to his books or being in the same city as his books, though I don’t know how I would “police” that.

I'm guessing he advances themes dear to the Left on a consistent basis - that's the new definition of genius. :)

Gaiman is brilliant. But one must keep in mind that not all great stuff is intended for a wide audience. Gaiman is a really weird guy who takes a really weird view of the world and writes for a really weird audience. Some folks can’t go down that path. One of the classic Gaiman anecdotes is when we was working on his TV show Neverwhere, he was being interviewed on set, at one point the interviewer asks if they can move the interview elsewhere because there’s just too much weird going on with the costumes and the set and he can’t concentrate. Gaiman says “really? This is what it looks like in my brain all the time, let’s go to my office”. You just might not be weird enough, it happens.
