Astounding new footage shows a sea lion grabbing a little girl off a dock and pulling her underwater.

The kid was feeding the male sea mammal bread crumbs near the water near Vancouver, Canada, on Saturday, but when she sat down on the edge of the jetty, the huge creature tried to make a meal out of her — grabbing her dress in its jaws and dragging her into the water.

So, your captain sides with Great Whites, huh? ; )

No, he wasn’t too fond of sharks either. If a shark appeared, the albacore disappeared. Even a little 4-foot blue shark would spook them.

You’re so right. That guy was impressive. No hesitation, just bam! In there, got the girl, and out. His quick action saved her from what could have been severe trauma. And he made it look so easy. Now that’s a real man in his prime.

The sea lion cows are playful, at least in the open water. My kids and I swam with sea lions. A couple of them swam along with us, check us out and dive with us.

Looks like the family ran off without thanking the rescue man.

According to comments at the video, the rescuer was her grandfather.

We had one climb up our stern ramp to get away from killer whales that had tried getting it. He didn’t want to get off, but was persuaded with a fish pew. Figure it was an Orca as it was a little torn up? They followed the cod end up A couple times as the gear came up to eat the fish that fell out.

Also heard of a Captain that shot a sea lion once back in the early 80s, but that was 2nd hand info. Knowing the captain, it happened.

Kind of like the polar bears eating the igloo.

They loved those things. “Crunchy on the outside and a chewy center!”

That was orcas following the cod end up, not sea lions.

Sea mammals sometimes “play” with their food. The lion could have dragged the girl under the water away from the pier and drowned her very easily.

That was very heroic of the guy to react that quickly. He likely saved her life.

Yes. No hesitation, no consideration of personal risk, SAVE THE GIRL. And he did.

I am in awe of his reaction. Pretty sure I would be standing there thinking “what just happened?”.

I am in awe of his reaction.

I responded just as fast to a similar situation once, but without any of the risk and heroism. I was standing next to a fully dressed little girl at the edge of a swimming pool, when she spied a cute white pet rabbit directly across the pool. She tried to walk across the water to pet him. I had her out in about five seconds, drenched and crying. Didn't even have to jump into the pool.

I hadn't thought of that in many years, but this video really brought back the memory.

My thoughts exactly. Swimming with dolphins makes about sense as actually dancing with wolves

I’m so surprised!
That an animal called a Sea-LION could be capable of this. After all this wild male is only about 8 ft long and 800+ lbs. And just because they are carnivorous, have large, sharp teeth and can open their mouth wide enough to get that little girl’s whole head inside is no reason to think that Mother Nature would let anything bad happen. </sarcasm>

Stupid games. Stupid prizes.

Thankfully she was ok. Whomever was in charge of that little girl deserves inspection. Not moving your child back after the first rearing up is child endangerment
