A few weeks ago we had a thread with a subject of who the greatest male vocalist ever were. There were many great comments on that thread. So for tonight, I am asking who do you think are the three greatest female vocalists ever?
Thank her control-freak brother for that...if only she’d been able to get out from under his (and their parents’) thumb.....
Ella Fitzgerald, several opera singers, Streisand (sorry) Garland, Julie Andrews Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson
Seems a couple of other things (ahem) always distract me....
I love Dolly Part on, but Whitney did an amazing remake of, “I will Always Love You.”

Frankly, her voice reminds me a bit of listening to a dry and overheating motor bearing....
Joan Morgan
Lotta good names here (I love Grace, Patsy, and Janis), but I am amazed that no one has mentioned Annie Haslam (unbelievable range) or the supernatural Elizabeth Fraser.
Oops! Make that HELEN Morgan, the original torch singer. What a voice!
1. Etta James
2. Etta James
3. Etta James
What? You sir, are the mumbling moron! I challenge you to a duel at sunrise for impugning a great jazz singer!
Eva Cassidy should be in there...
I love, love, love Donna Summer’s version of “Mcarthur Park.” Even better than Richard Harris’s version & I love his. So many people hate that song, but I just love it!
Her daughter is a duo w/ her husband & is drop dead gorgeous.
If you’re going to talk about “greatest” and “ever” I have to ask, how many commenting have heard Ella Fitzgerald from some of her early recordings? I’m twenty or thirty years younger than her generation but recently heard some of her singing from the forties. She was amazing and I can’t say I’ve ever heard anyone better.
This woman has the most gorgeous voice I ever heard in my life, I suggest you listen to it..........

Vera Lynn, still going at age 100.
thanks. Now I am lost in youtube.
I think the most beautiful song I have ever heard was “Dream Angus” by the Glasgow Orpheus Choir. It was an all girl choir directed by Hugh Robertson.
To make it even more surprising at least to me is that it was recorded in the 1930s.
indeed Beverly Sills,
+ Eartha Kitt
Carole King
and Lisa Simpson.
