Residents told CNN affiliate WLBT that the body was found by a group of children in a wooded area. Jackson police are waiting for the coroner and medical examiner to determine whether the head and body belong to the same person.
"Due to the type of crime and the proximity of the body parts, we can assume perhaps this is the remains that were attached to the head," Jackson Police Chief Lee Vance said.
Police have not determined the motive in the case and would not say whether the killing is gang-related....
Police did not say whether the homeowners recognized the head.

When I was stationed in England the bloke Police came around one day when my wife was at home at told her they had found a head (no body)in the nearby Queen’s forest. She/we didn’t know anything about it but we didn’t visit the Queen’s forest as often after that.
Not a national story unless the two don’t match up.

A few years back, a blogger named Kim du Toit wrote about how brutal life is in present-day South Africa, and shared his three favorite headlines from a local newspaper.
The first headline read: “Three headless corpses found.”
A few days later: “Three heads found.”
A few days after that: “Heads don’t match bodies.”
In US, duh they belong together.

Forty years ago I was on that very street looking for a black guy who owed my business money.
