Very impressive. I do all the meats including Salmon from Alaska, but not the bear—did you shoot the bear? I bow down down if you did. Was the bear black or brown. I forgot. You are in Wisconsin and I don’t think they have griz there?

Love stuffed jalapenos. Our local BBQ restaurant not only stuffs them but puts them in the smoker wrapped in bacon. We are growing 2 different mammoth jalapeno varieties just to try this at home.
Cream cheese, mayo, ranch dressing to thin the mix plus some horseradish.
Then wrap in half a slice of bacon and bake for 30 minutes.

I finally got most of my garden planted this past week. Spuds, winter squash and bush beans. Also a packet of scallions. Will add some more winter squah around pole beans and a raised bed of cabbages.
We put in a small pond under our garden pergola. First foxhole I have dug in a long, long time!
Barb has done a magnificent job on her side of the garden!

It might be a soil PH problem for you? My cousins in TX have a problem growing them and their county extension people implied it was a PH issue.
What the cold and wind didn’t kill the heat is determined to finish off. We’ve had highs of 108* F, and some leaves are burnt. On the other hand, the spinach seeds I planted two weeks ago are coming up right on schedule.
My SIL was down to 3 old hens (around 5 years old) this spring so she got some chicks - 13 to be exact. She’s got 5 Buff Orpingtons, 5 Aracauna, & 3 black ones - not sure what breed, but those 3 are extremely curious and outgoing. The black ones weren’t at the feed store until a week after the Buffs & Aracaunas so she got 3, thinking 15 was just too many. Anyway, the “chicks” are now looking like young hens & I can’t wait for them to start laying - I love fresh eggs.
Last night, my brother texted me to say that he has pictures of a bobcat hanging out behind his house. Ruh roh! My SIL is running the bobcat equivalent of Chik-Fil-A!! She lets the chickens out every day & they run around the yard, garden, woods bordering the yard .... I’m really surprised Mr. Bob hasn’t picked off one or more already.
My uncle made wine - his plum wine was The Best. Although he grew many berries, & had fruit trees, he made friends with the produce guy(s) at a local grocery store and he would go by periodically to see if there were any fruits that were going to be thrown out because they would let him have it. He would go through it, pick out what he could use, and make wine from it. He would experiment, too - even made potato wine (not something he made twice!). Talented guy - he also was a beekeeper so we had a local source for honey.
We have that attachment, too - but haven’t played with it yet. ;)
Yum, French onion soup… It’s going to be cool here the next few days, well, cool for us in the low 70s. So maybe I should make some…
My garden is being pelted with rain as I type. I love not having to go out and water but the amount of rain we’re getting is ridiculous. Every time I check on the garden the weeds have grown by double.
Wow, I envy you your blueberries! I have three bushes we inherited when we bought the property, and I planted five more. The three were suffering from neglect but everything is thriving now after I acidified the soil. I can’t wait to get my own blueberries!
Can you share your recipe for caramel apple pie jam? It sounds great. We also inherited three apple trees that are early bloomers. And I find those apples to be too soft to can pie filling with. So I just make applesauce with them, and the pie jam sounds fantastic. All three trees are just loaded this year, after having nothing last year.
So I planted three more trees that will have apples ripening in the fall and those are supposed to be a firmer texture. I will be overwhelmed with apples if all goes according to plan.
Lovely weather we’re having this week in Central Missouri. We’ve gotten a bit of rainfall and the temps have been rather pleasant for this time of the year.
The japanese beetles started to appear about ten days ago and I’ve had to spray seven on my orchard trees and set out the traps. Several of my plum trees had already been hit pretty hard by the time I noticed, but I put some hurt on the bugs and managed to knock the first wave down quite well.
Nephew came over yesterday evening and helped me pull dripline on the pumpkin rows. I’ll get the taps installed on the mainline later today and replant the skips. The rains came at a good time and I got a good stand but there are a dozen or so hills where nothing came up. I expect the birds dug the seeds up before they sprouted.
Spent a couple hours pulling weeds in the kitchen garden this morning. I’ve got a spot cleaned up and ready for Mrs. Augie’s russian pickle cucumbers. I just need to put the fence up and stick some seeds in the ground.
My tomato plants are doing well. Most of them are waist high and have apple-sized green tomatoes. The garlic tops are starting to die back so it won’t be long before that’s ready to dig. Spuds are all blooming. The blue lake pole beans have made it about ten feet up the arbor and are branching like crazy.
I harvested the last of the sugar snap peas and pulled the vines a couple days ago. I’m going to come behind those with kentucky wonder pole beans and some other variety of pole bean that Nephew is wanting to try out.
Busy, busy, busy...
Oh, I wanted to thank you for all your advice last year. I find it so easy to grow my tomatoes and peppers now by putting down newspaper. I love not having to weed! And your advice on dealing with the blight with the bleach spray is so easy and inexpensive. And best of all, works perfectly!
How do you pickle radishes? I’m going to have to try that. It’s the one crop I can always count on year after year.
Oh, your chickens are beautiful. I can’t wait to get some.
I would love to see the chicken coop you built too! We’re going to have to build one, so all ideas will be very appreciated.
I would be proud of those too :-) we’re not comparing here, we’re just helping each other. I haven’t gotten any blueberries yet because I picked off the blossoms. I have to let my babies grow bigger before I let them reproduce
I was thinking, and have been for years, about getting a food saver. Do you think they are worth it? The only thing that concerns me is the cost of the bags.
