2) I have a fire-arms license and also am an owner, we have some gun control, that’s true, but it’s not nearly that strict except with regards to hand guns. Long guns no worries.

You didn’t offend me, I should apologize to you for characterizing Canada as PC, pro-Muslim, & socialist.
I visited the War Memorial outside Parliament; many thousands of Canadians gave their lives in two World Wars. But did they die so that French must appear in public as much as English? So that Muslims have become the protected sacred cows of Canada?
I was sickened by all the “Je me souviens” plates I saw (in Ontario). I spoke French in Vietnam so the language isn’t the issue, it’s the Quebecois attitude. What’s next, Bonhomme Carnaval as majority leader in Parliament? Just kidding, sort of.
But no handgun ownership? Now that is what makes Canada a foreign country to me. That and people being prosecuted for criticizing Islam.

You owe me no apology friend. Been reading Steyn for many years. I’m from Ontario but work in Alberta, America has many allies up here, more than would otherwise ever be reported. We’re as silent as Trump supporters.
You can own a handgun with the extra ‘Restricted’ PAL (Possession acquisition License) ID. Which isn’t terribly hard to get.
The restriction really is that you have to phone into the government/police and get what is called an ATT to transport your firearm to the where you are going, if it’s a hand gun..
You are only allowed to transport said firearm to and from either a gun club or a gunsmith.
Long guns we are pretty much free reign, and there are a LOT of long gun owners here. We don’t have to register them. There are likely 10 million shotgun/rifle owners or so. We like our long guns.
