Tragic type of situation, severity and frequency of which is made worse by mobile phones, red light cameras, DUI and illegals driving w/o licenses or insurance. I do not know about other cities, but the population where I am seems to have exploded in the last 15 yrs. Our streets and highways were not built for this rate of pop’n growth.
The obvious exception to "normally" being when one has the green light...

Yeah, it sounds like Venus may not have understood the “gridlock” concept.
If the approaching vehicle saw the light turn green from a few hundred feet back, she may have not been planning to brake at all.
We have “right on red” in our town, and one time I had a light in front of me turn green while I was going 40 mph and didn’t have to slow down, but had some idiot make a right turn into my lane. Talk about road rage.
Yeah, sadly, a bunch of idiots here are making this story about race — glad you’ve called them out on it.

Venus is outstanding, but it is her sister Serena who has dominated and won 23 majors. I think Venus has won 7 majors, not shabby at all.
I was stuck at a notorius light in Seattle today. Trying to turn left (one-way to one-way). The busy main road is flowing with traffic, then comes crawling to a stop. Then our light turns green (another major road - two lanes trying to turn).
Two to four cars can make it onto the cross street before our light turns red again. It is ALWAYS like this. Although I didn’t see any cars blocking the intersection today. (Every so often some idiot will). So much for automated traffic cameras and lights. I have no idea how many light changes I waited on - probably 10 or 12.
The list of cars commonly bought by wealthy people includes Accord, Camry, Jetta, CR-V, and Prius. Appliances. Having a lot of money doesn’t mean liking cars or liking to show off.
Yeah. This elderly dimbulb was just lucky she hit somebody who would probably just settle rather than get bad publicity.
ahhhh I misread. That makes it a bit fuzzy on fault. Though I have to say that the cops have all the facts and I obviously don’t!

I wonder what the situation would be if the Hyundai had hit and killed a pedestrian that had tripped and fallen and wasn’t able to clear the intersection in time? Sad though for her on the death of her husband.

I damn near got T-Boned at an intersection. Three lanes, Right turn, Left turn and my straight ahead lane. Truck on my right so could not see traffic from the right. I was stopped at the red light. When the light turned green I started through the intersection. The truck on my right moved into the intersection to make the right turn. I was not in a hurry so I was moving slow. When I got to the center, a car from my right blew through the intersection missing my front end by a few inches. Had I been in a hurry, he would have drilled me. This had to be at least 5 seconds after the light changed. He never slowed down. Probably doing 40 MPH or better.
So again, would need more info. Camera shots would help too.
Well, maybe but clearly the other one (Serena) was using her black privilege to support a false narrative that somehow McEnroe was a racist and a misyogynist. Everyone knows women can't beat men in any sport from motor racing to mountain climbing. Not buying it. That would not have killed him if she was driving 5mph.
Sounds like a real bummer! Also very frustrating to wait behind someone who will not turn left because there is a lot of traffic flowing from the opposite direction. I once waited 3 signal go-arounds simply because the driver in front of me refused to enter and set themselves up to be able to turn after the opposite traffic had been stopped by the red light.

It does sound like it was Williams fault. But I suspect the woman was timing herself so as to pace through the light as it turned green. Something that we all do. But it is risky and she should have scanned the intersection more closely.
