Hard to get too exited about “Dunkirk.” “Heroic” my left foot. Those men should all have been cornered and captured. They had no chance...except for the fact that Hitler was a psycho for hesitating on the Wehrmacht order to encircle the troops, then listening to the fat moron Hermann Georing and giving the Luftwaffe the go-ahead instead. That mindless delay is what saved the troops, and Britain. It was one of Hitler’s 3 fatal blunders. The other two being the declaration of war on the U.S. after Pearl Harbor, and Operation Barbarrossa before the West was defeated.

Whatever you may think of the service of the British Expeditionary Force, there was plenty of heroism at Dunkirk. If nothing else, the story of the civilians who sailed across in their little ships should never be forgotten. A number of the original ships were used in the film which I was pleased to see.

It was heroic. The civilians that sailed all those small craft to rescue the army, that was amazingly heroic.

Hitler had more than 3 blunders, he could have taken the Suez canal, but didn't emphasize North Africa. He didn't follow his original timeline nor finish his aircraft carriers. The dude was egotistical and irrational, thank God for that...

Britain has a sad history of stupid, blundering command. My theory is that their officers tend to be aloof and stuck in pre-set tradition.

Anyway, I’m with you about not getting too excited about Dunkirk. Dumbkirk.

British dumbness was rescued by Hitler’s greater blunder.

I read a book recently called “Blitzed: Drugs in the Third Reich” that makes the case that many of Hitler’s and the Nazi leadership’s dumbest decisions had to do with the fact that Hitler and others were hopped up on some kind of mind-altering drug all the time.

Have you ever noticed that most of the leaders of the so-called “Master Race” were physically ugly, degenerate losers? According to their standards and beliefs, they would be the real untermenschen. They should have exterminated themselves first.

The real heroes of Dunkirk never get the credit. It was the French 1st Army, France’s best unit, that fought it out inland with the German 6th Army so that the British would be able to get off the beaches at Dunkirk.
