They may have preferred the NAZIs, one of France’s unspoken truths, quite a few French thought the NAZIs were just fine. Obviously more supported the allies, but quite a few enthusiastically supported Hitler.
I doubt more French supported the allies; they wanted neutrality - and killed the American troops landing in French North Africa to prove it. Occasionally an American historian slips up and admits the Americans “invaded” France...
