“Primitive” breeds, such as Salukis, Ibizan Hounds and Afghan Hounds are infamous for their aloofness.
However, it is a useful trait as they are independent hunters.
The downside is that when involved in rescue of such breeds, it takes much longer [if ever] to get them over their history of abuse.
Like wild canids, they survive on empirical evidence, as it were.
