Bill France Junior destroyed in a few short years what his father worked a lifetime to build when he introduced his form of political correctness into NASCAR.

I worked for a NASCAR driver in the ‘70’s (Elmo Langley)

We seldom had a race that the stands weren’t full or at least about 90%...

***The stands aren’t even half full...What goes????***

Televising the race has become great entertainment. Full circuit coverage, pit stops, speeds, position etc., in the quiet and comfort of A/C, food and bathrooms;)

You don’t get all of that inside stuff on the track. But it is a great Father/Son experience.

NASCAR's political correctness and diversity outreaches beginning to pay dividends?

You can find stories and pictures from several years ago of lousy attendance at that race.

i’m an open wheel racing fan who keeps an eye on the Brickyard 400....this is the second year in a row this race has been about 25% capacity (compared to the 500 which usually goes about 90% capacity which is close to 250,000 people)...

when this race first started you couldn’t fit anymore people into the speedway with a crowbar it was so full..

Bad weather? They are red-flagged now because of a thunderstorm.

The race has been stopped...The sky is black...

Maybe the weather forecast had something to do with this unbelievably poor attendance....

Evidently that could be the reason the attendance is so low...

I Googled, and you are correct. Over 200k seats at Indy. Daytona has half that many. But most interesting is that Talledaga, traditionally the number two behind Daytona, has cut seating from 175,000 to 80,000. And Texas Motor Speedway with over 180,000 seats has apparently quit selling tickets to the backstretch, cutting functional capacity to 112,000.

Looks like Junior is doing a good job of killing the golden goose in the quest for liberal acceptance.

1967 was first visit to Indy 500. All I can say is WOW. That said, NASCAR, of which I’m a diehard fan is on the wane (as is the cuntry as we know it).

I did not know all those tracks had cut so many seats...

I basically quit following NASCAR when the cars became “cookie cutter” cars...The only way to tell the difference in the models is the logo on the grill....

In the ‘70’s when I worked for a driver, you could tell Chevy from Ford, Ford from Plymouth...Plymouth from Dodge...

Now they all look the same....

‘67 was another Foyt victory....wasn’t it delayed a day due to weather?

if lighting is involved or potential lightning it makes sense...Indy doesn’t have seats- it has aluminum benches...
