Roy Tyner was mostly before I moved to NASCAR country from Yankeeland - I barely recalled his name. But I did follow the Allisons a good bit - just a shame the tragedy they had to deal with in the second generation.

This year was my 29th race.
The best part is the pre-race Memorial Day tribute and the respect the spectators have for our military men and women.
Loved last years race. The kid was in shock, then tears started to just flow down his cheeks. It was fun to see.

You talking Dale Sr. or Junior? If it’s Senior, is the problem that he’s not there?

I liked Donnie...He was a lot of fun...Bobby was a little smug...
Probably the friendliest drivers of the “big names” was Buddy Baker and Richard Petty...

It was truly a shame about Davey...I remember Davey running around loose in the garage area a lot at some tracks...He was a good kid...

There was only one Dale Earnhardt. He hated to be called “Senior.” NASCAR has gone steadily down hill since his death. NASCAR would have never changed to common template cars if he was still alive.

1978. Snake Pit. It was sooo gross. Got seats after that.

Let’s see what happened? NASCAR let Toyota cheat the past 10 years, no Confederate flags allowed (I used to see them at New Hampshire when they were there), diversity now (I think Bubba Wallace will be a star, but what will be next a transgender driver?), to much of a lovefest with Dale Jr. and Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards retired...

It seems the shape of the track and the slight banking of the turns at Indy create a one groove race track for NASCAR... For the Cup cars, yes. But not so for the Xfinity cars. Yesterday's race often had them 3 wide in the turns.
That said, the latter stages of today's race were a joke. Pro Rasslin' puts on a better show.

I enjoyed (and appreciate) your personal insights; the only individual I knew personally who was ever closely associated with the business was a young kid who drove on dirt tracks around Charlotte and upstate SC.

I remember when restrictor plates first came out... We were at Daytona and during a practice round on Saturday, marty Robbins, the country music singer (and race car driver) had his plate taken out... he went out for the practice and was blowing the doors off Richard Petty... The plates did allow for Smokey Yunick-like shenanigans ... at one point the hot setup was supposedly to create vacuum leaks and rich up the carb...
But a better solution would have been a reduction in engine size.

Bill France Junior destroyed in a few short years what his father worked a lifetime to build when he introduced his form of political correctness into NASCAR.Truth. And this whole stages garbage this season is the icing on the cake.

Now they all look the same....Because they are. They haven't been "stock" cars in decades. Same basic shapes. The only Chevy/Ford/Toyota parts are under the hood.
