Vanity: Google is shooting themselves in the foot

Like so many of my fellow freepers, I have real intellectual problems with Google and the way it operates, but I've tended to stick with them because their news search function was extremely helpful. But they've changed things and their news search is much less helpful now.

Hmmmmm. Isn’t this interesting?

PC BS hits ALL internet search sites?

I don’t think you know what “monopoly” means.

I know. That’s the only search engine I use.

Sometimes they’re even a little wonky.

Use it wisely, use them to help destroy them. This is one such case. Use it as a weapon against them.

So go look at it and then spread the word to anyone you know.

Lol. Sadly, that’s what has become “reality” for mainstream.

I looked up both images on Google. If it's obvious, I don't see what the issue is.

My point is that if people don't like what they are doing or seeing, do or look somewhere else.

It's not rocket science.

No, I don't. Please tell me.

Every definition includes the term “exclusive.” That means there is only one source for the goods or service. Google is hardly the only search engine.

I think most posters, here, ARE using alternate search sites.

The point being made is - and I’m surprised it wasn’t glaringly obvious to you - that a search on Google or Bing for “white couple” (at least up until a few minutes ago) brought up (for me) ONE
white couple and the rest were mixed race couples. Versus a search for “black couples” brought up only black couples.

Seeing the obvious social engineering attempts, by Google, isn’t rocket science.

Ya know, competitors tend to look for, or poach talent with experience, so it's not surprising that companies tend to think alike.

Throw in some screening questions, and they also get people with the same attitudes/lack of morals/lack of honesty.

My "white couple" search on Google gave me unlimited images of white couples with some odd, out-of-place images, as most searches of anything will bring up.

I don't use Google myself.

Just don't use the search engine if you don't like it's results but why is this even a post on FR?

Search engines used to support “regular expressions”. Now those were truly effective searches.

Given from the tenor of the replies, many here on Free Republic, including myself, don’t like Google’s politics and wouldn’t mind seeing them fail. This change to the way they produce their news results will probably hurt their business. I think we’re all for that, which is why I posted it.

Google went full blown psycho leftists about 6 months before the election.

I suspect this ponzi scheme of a company is living perilously and their days are numbered.

Part of the great frothing of the mouth by Google, and others, is their knowledge that their operation isn’t legal and law abiding.

For all intents and purposes, Google is a monopoly, especially when it paid search related. It’s not that hard to see down the road where the only 4 companies of size in their respective industry plus many others are Google, Facebook, Amazon and Netflix (or at least 3 out of these 4). The whole point of capitalism is to have small businesses constantly disrupting and breaking the large guy but our system today is designed to do just the opposite. When one of the FANGs (Amazon purchasing of WFM and announcing meal kits) can kill 75% of the market value of a fairly good size firm that was 2 days from going public (Blue Apron) in a matter of weeks, there is a big problem.

Larry, Sergie and Eric want to be “Big Brothers” IT provider in 1984.

I agree. Use any search index you like, they are using Googles indexes at some point.

If Google applies their ‘hate speech’ filters to the index, then all search engine results are skewed.
