I have a near mint winchester model 37 single shot 410 from 1940 that my grandfather gave me in 1970 when I was about 6. It’s always been fun to go dove hunting with because it makes you think about the shot.

I’m thinking of selling it. pm me if anyone is interested. Sorry if this isn’t appropriate here.

I have my granddad's Winchester 37, too - also in .410. It really needs to have the forcing cone lengthened to better cope with plastic hull shot shells, but I still drag it out at least once a year for a rabbit hunt. Quickest way I know to make 45 years seem to melt away.

That little gun has a stiff recoil, though. Almost enough to warrant a recoil pad. I hate to cut any length off of an original stock, though. It needs a reproduction buttplate, at least - the original one repeatedly gets a white oxidation film on it. Oddly, it seems to have shrunk with age - there's around 1/16" of the wooden buttstock showing around the edge of the plate. Apparently this is a known issue with those old plastic formulations.

I like the old scattergun - and knowing that both my dad and granddad winced at that recoil before I did.
