The little white truck was flipped on its side. Not sure about that one. Looked touch and go for the pickup for a while.

It looks like it’s on a lake just north of Vientiane, the capital. Luckily for them it’s not on the Mekhong. If it was then, Si Pon Don (or 10,000 Islands) on the border with Cambodia in the south would be washed away. Last time I was there they had no electricity. Amazing place for the very adventurous.

Laos is my favorite country. The people are amazing and there is still very little western influences. 10-20 years ago it was untouched by everything but a few French restaurants.

Have you ever been there? Vientiane and Luang Prabang are two of my favorite cities in Asia. LP is great. I’ve been there about 12 times and been to almost every province. The north is very pretty and almost untouched. The South is completely different, but just as unique. You can avoid the plane of jars though, didn’t impress me as much as the others.

We flew from Tokyo to Bangkok, then a small airplane to Vientiane. We were there two days and I was about 13 years old. A few weeks later and back in Japan, dad suffered a heart attack and really did have to take early retirement. We sailed home that fall, finally back in the USA.
