NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Parents in North Tonawanda could end up behind bars if their child is found bullying others. The North Tonawanda Common Council hopes the new law will help end bullying by holding parents accountable for their children’s actions.

If a child is caught bullying, or attacking another student, their parent will pay the fine or do the time, according to a law unanimously passed by the North Tonawanda Common Council last week.

The parent could spend up to 15 days in jail, pay $250 or both.

Something tells me there will be very selective enforcement of this law. Its how our system now works.

I wonder how “bullying” defined in this statute?

“Bullying” will be whatever they say it is. It will never be defined because the left wants to do things on the fly.

Well, Public School is Child Abuse, so all the parents should be jailed for NOT homeschooling their kids.

It sounds like the North Tonawanda Common Council is a bit of a bully itself. The township had better prepare for the inevitable law suits over this nonsense.

There must be an objective definition of the term in the statute or the statute is unconstitutionally vague. Due process requires that a criminal statute be sufficiently detailed to put a person on notice as to what conduct is prohibited.

Oh, as broadly as possible, probably using Obama's White House "anti-bullying" website list as the criteria (https://www.stopbullying.gov/what-is-bullying/definition/index.html):

Verbal bullying is saying or writing mean things. Verbal bullying includes:
- Teasing
- Name-calling
- Inappropriate sexual comments
- Taunting
- Threatening to cause harm

Social bullying, sometimes referred to as relational bullying, involves hurting someone’s reputation or relationships. Social bullying includes:
- Leaving someone out on purpose
- Telling other children not to be friends with someone
- Spreading rumors about someone
- Embarrassing someone in public

Yes, you can be labeled a 'bully' for 'leaving someone out on purpose.'

“Embarrassing someone in public?”

“You throw like a girl!”
“You’re not only bullying me, you’re bullying that girl over there! - Your dad’s going to jail!”

the woman in this story said her kid was beaten up, she did not say why.

Others in this story kinda hinted it’s the same group of kids.

Am wondering if it’s a group of minorities doing the crime and we will hear back lash from that?

Kiddingly calling a buddy a “fag” or “gay” where a self-identifying “gay” kid can hear it and melt like a snowflake.

Beaten up or lost in a mutually assented fight?

I think it can be determined whether these conflicts are mutually aggressive animosity or actual bullying by nominal investigation: punish the (actual) bullying, and let the kid government sort out the rest as long as it isn't on school property.

I’m not sure how this will work.

My son was the target of a bully in a youth group that I ran.

I knew it but couldn’t make any sort of physical proof short of videotaping his every move.

I had to walk a bit of a fine line since I was the leader and I also work with the Bully’s father.

I did have a conversation with him and it was the classic “not my boy” blindness even though we had several examples witnessed by several adults as the bullying event was ending.

The kid was very good about getting in his shots while we were not watching him.

Finally one day, my kid had enough.

He launched on the kid and tackled him into a row of chairs and started pummeling.

“Hmm, looks like a fight. Perhaps I should do something about it. Yea, maybe I should. I guess now is the right time. OK boys, break it up.”

The bully was this look of total fear on his face and was leaking a small amount of blood.

He straightened up and soon left the group.

I hope he learned his lesson.

But since his dad, who’s a good guy and who I count as a friend was so blinded to it, being able to jail him would be a pretty tough case to prove.

Classic bully’s like this kid are extremely good at doing their deeds with no witnesses leaving it a he said, he said issue.

From the sounds of the article it seems to be an ongoing problem. Which is why am wondering if it’s with minority kids and we will see back lash from this law.

Does anyone here know anything about this area of New York? When watched the video saw only a classroom of white kids. That does not mean there are Amish kids in the area causing trouble. The media and parents are too PC to say what the problem is, so we have to fill in the blanks.

Every kid these days has a camera phone. It will be recorded and on youtube before the hour is up.

Lot of kids today beat up one kid then post it online, here on fr we have posted stories about this. It’s all the rage with kids. Beat up a girl or boy in the bathroom then post it! Kids most often, more so with the Amish ones don’t even get arrested if they beat up a white child.

Kids who are bullies have parents who are bullies. So put the bully parents in jail. When they lose money on their job and with court costs and fines they will make their kids cut the crap.

[[The township had better prepare for the inevitable law suits over this nonsense]]

In a state that upheld the unconstitutional ‘safe act’ law- I doubt lawsuits against Tonawanda will get very far

No “person of color” will ever be charged under this law.

The North Tonawanda Common Council is bullying innocent people in order to pretend that they are doing something.

Problems with this concept:
* Crybullies WILL utilize it to get administrators to punish their victims yet again because they already know how to couch unreasonable demands and even physically hurt people while posing as the harmed party.
* When schools already punish both sides in a fight, this will result in some parents whose children are routinely harmed to face fines or jail time in addition to the child’s punishment for fighting back.
* When liberals say they are love, good and tolerance so conservatives are by liberals’ definition evil haters. You’ll end up with enforcement akin to Islamic blasphemy laws, that simply criticizing liberal policy is sufficient to be slapped down and defending your views instead of submitting is akin to a death sentence. And now you’ve given these same liberal bullies an ability to punish the parent for a child arguing conservative views in class or wearing an American flag T-shirt to school.
