With the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears tied near the end of last nights Monday Night Football, it looked for sure that the game was going into overtime. Then, even with injured quarterback Sam Bradford put on the field last night, the Vikings took control and won the game 20-17.
That now finds Minnesota 3-2 in the fifth week of the 2017-2018 season. However, even with the much plugged world debut of the new Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer at halftime, for the NFL and ESPN it was not such a great result in what is clearly a season of ratings hurt and protest controversies surrounding the national anthem even on a night when the latter was not shown on-air by the league.
Snaring a 7.0 in metered market results, last nights MNF was down double digits from last weeks Kansas Chiefs 29-20 victory over the Washington Redskins. Down 17% in the ratings, thats actually a regular game season low for the ESPN broadcast game and matches the MM result of the second game of the doubleheader MNF opener on September 11.
That comes a day after Sunday Night Football also hit a season low with its ratings down too.
A sliver of a silver lining can be found for the NFL and ESPN in that last nights game was up 8% in MM ratings from the Week 5 match-up last year between Tampa and Carolina. With the help of strong ratings from those always well-watched Dallas Cowboys, MNF is holding steady with last years hard-hit season with a 5% uptick.
Either way, on a full night on the Big 4, MNF looks poised to win the night again. Well update with more ratings later. As a measure, last weeks Chiefs vs. Redskins game ended up with 11.9 million viewers and a 4.3 rating among adults 18-49. Last nights game peaked with an 8.3 MM rating during the 9:45 10 PM slot, exactly when The Last Jedi trailer was shown the Force is clearly strong with that one.
NFL. time to kneel and beg America’s forgiveness
Even Han Solo didn’t watch.
Indians-Yankees probably had a lot to do with that.
I took a peak at the halftime score on my scores app and saw the halftime score was 3-2. There was more scoring in the baseball game I was watching.
You bet they do.
We’ll see changes shortly. I just don’t think the changes will have folks coming back.
The ‘screw you’ attitudes have been too pronounced > IMO.
They burned their bridges.
Nfl. Nana na na Hey hey hey goodbye!
As I was channel surfing, I ran across MNF (I used to watch it religiously). I couldn’t look at it for more than a couple of minutes before I switched to baseball playoffs. Whenever I looked at those colorful players, my ennui was too much to take. These guys have no idea.
Da bears suck ...
8.3m out of 300m watching?
Good job — let’s keep driving them lower and lower and lower.
Hopefully the players are realizing their salaries are about to be reduced.
The only bad thing that would happen if the ratings ever got to zero would be that there wouldn’t be any way to drive them down any further.
Sorry, not trying to be argumentative, but I think we need to make FR a No NFL scores/games Zone. Just a suggestion.
The racist anti-American NFL has shown their true colors. There’s no going back or coming home now.
Stop being hypnotized by the nfl marketing team. There is much more productive and fun things to do than sit hypnotized by your television watching these wealthy America-hating physical mutants play their games while they insult your and your country. Your friends and family would be glad to have you back. The he** with the nfl.
I checked the score a few times. When I saw the 3-2 score at halftime I knew ratings would be in the toilet. I checked late in the second half to see the ending. I love listing to the post game programming on 670 am The Score in Chicago. The two hours of hosts and fans ripping the Bears is entertainment radio.
It is impossible to watch a game and not be aware of the racist attitudes of the players.
It is like something that once seen, cannot be unseen.
Pro-football is dead...the players just don't know it yet.
I haven’t watched a game since last year. I didn’t watch last season and I haven’t watched this season.
The team I have rooted for all my life is terrible and I don’t even care.
