In four of its six seasons, I Love Lucy was the most-watched show in the United States and was the first to end its run at the top of the Nielsen ratings.
In 2002, TV Guide ranked the sitcom televisions 2nd greatest show of all time, and in 2007 it landed on TIME Magazines 100 Best TV Shows of All-TIME list...

Is it really one of the greatest shows of all time?
Or is it nostalgia of having grown up with reruns of those 6 seasons for a lifetime?
Does the humor hold up or have the plots been recycled ad nauseum to the point that they no longer elicit the same howls of laughter?
I show this video to my biochemistry students, to illustrate saturation of an enzyme’s active site. Even the sleepers in the back row sit up and laugh.
I think it’s still hilarious and holds up very well.
Meh. The show seemed tacky to me even as a child. Straight man Fred Mertz was the only regular character I found likable.
As a 7 yr old I thought the show stupid. Even at that tender age I saw the OBVIOUS faults in Lucy’s plans and that they were beneath the level of any adult with an IQ above that of a potted plant. Never got this show...
I still love the reruns -— she was very talented. Such as this quick scene - which will go down in film history imho -—

Looceee...you got a lot of splainin to do!
GMTA.My sediments exactly.
I finally figured out that I didn't really care for "shows about people in show business," and I find I Love Lucy unwatchable today (along with The Dick Van Dyke Show).
Mr. niteowl77
(FWIW, I considered William Frawley to be more entertaining than the rest of the cast.)
TV Guide lists Seinfeld as the greatest show of all times.
Is it really, or just one of the more recent on the arbiters’ minds?
I do have a lot of nostalgia for the old shows, such as All in the Family, Gunsmoke, Carol Burnett, etc, so definitely that would cloud my view if I were voting.
I think it took Seinfeld awhile to really hit its stride.
I think the black and white Twilight Zone still holds up.
Never was my favorite show, but I enjoyed the travel episodes where they went to Europe or Hollywood (even though both locations were filmed in Hollywood). The William Holden and John Wayne episodes are classics.
Seinfeld was BOOOOOOORRRRRRIIIIINNNNNGGGG. I couldn’t watch more than about 2 minutes of it at a time. I never got it.
Me either.
I have seen some amusing clips, but to watch it week after week? Nah.
I like it fine. I appreciate its groundbreaking effect.
I think the cast is great (Desi/Ricky is least talented).
What I don’t care for is the presence of the singing/dancing/entertainment portions in many episodes. The exception being the “Ethyl Mae Potter, we never forgot her” episode set in her supposed hometown of Albuquerque. That was funny AND entertaining.
I also really enjoy the travel portions. (California, Europe, Florida, Cuba).
I enjoyed watching the I Love Lucy show. IMHO it was one of the better TV shows of the day and has stood up well over time.
