PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania -- A dispute over a student's cell phone being taken away in class led to an elementary teacher being attacked and beaten by the student's mother, according to reports.
Daishonta Williams, 29, is charged with stalking, aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and reckless endangerment.
The charges are connected to an incident that began Wednesday at Pittsburgh King PreK-8 School, CBS Pittsburgh reports.
Janice Watkins, 46, a fourth-grade teacher at the school, took a cell phone away from a female student because of the school's no-cell-phone policy. While taking the phone away, the student reportedly bit Watkins.
The student's mother, Williams, was called to the school because of the incident. During a meeting with Williams, the daughter accused Watkins of trying to choke her, the Pittsburgh Tribune reports.
Williams reportedly became angry and told the teacher she "is going to get it later," police say.
Watkins left the school at around 3:15 p.m. and noticed a man and woman following in an SUV, according to the Associated Press. Police say when Watkins stopped at an intersection, the man and woman approached her car and the woman threw a brick through the window, striking Watkins in the face.
The woman then dragged Watkins out of the car and began beating her, reportedly saying, "I told you I would get you."
Watkins lost a tooth and was treated at a hospital for facial injuries, CBS Pittsburgh reports.
The Tribune reports when police went to Williams home to question her, she said, "I ain't going to lie, I did it." However, she denied throwing a brick.
"I did get out and I did hit her, but I did not throw a brick through the window as they say I did," Williams tells WPXI.com. "I did not. I punched her in her face."

“I find it deeply disturbing to drive by a bunch of kids (or adults) waiting for a bus or see them in a big group in a restaurant, and observe that they all have their heads bent downward at a 45 degree angle gazing at a device in the palm of their hand. The vast majority of the time they dont know who is standing next to them, if there was a bald eagle in a tree nearby, or even if the sun is shining or a car was bearing down on them.”
I call them “phone drones”. Soon enough they will just have the phones surgically implanted in their heads and they can stumble through life with glazed over eyes as 90% of their brain function is busy digitally stimulating itself.
Cellphone jammers all over the entire building except the teachers lounge and principals office. Sad to spend the money but if that is what it takes...
Daishonta? Violent?
Correlation?
There is ongoing research into “violence” genetic qualities.
Impulse control.
I find it very depressing. It is as if they don’t have freedom to look around them anymore. They are missing life, it seems to me.
Sad thing is, if I were their age, I would likely be doing it too.
I know. The tell people not to text and drive...you can kill someone, go to jail, your life can be ruined, but...people still do it.
What makes anyone think they will bring a phone to school and not use it?
I wouldn’t want to be a teacher now.
