“...why on earth would Markus Wolfe, a Stasi operative and spymaster, point fingers at Castro when asked about the subject?”

IDK.

“so he really isn’t doing it to aid them in any propaganda efforts?”

My comment was not referring to Wolfe, in particular but to other operatives, like the ones that maintained Oswald’s 201 file.- The Ghost.

“...at the very least the Soviets WERE involved in much of the disinformation campaign regarding the Kennedy Assassination, something that wouldn’t make any sense at all if they were truly not involved in any way in that event.”

Not necessarily. Never let a crisis go to waste. And we had a biggie.

“So you believe a Soviet Bloc defector over Ronald Reagan.”

This comment you intended for FR Pelham post #203, not me.

I love RR, but not sure what interest or disinterest he had in JFK. Nor what classified information was shared with him or the other presidents that followed.

As for government agents and spies- they are in the business of lying and not revealing the truth unless it benefits their interest. There’s plenty of disinformation and redirection in all aspects of their business. It’s just the nature of the beast.

Maybe, but the fact that Markus Wolf and Ion Mihai Pacepa, both high-level Soviet bloc personnel, have pointed in the direction of either Cuba or the USSR definitely suggests that it’s not unreasonable to assume they definitely had a hand in it.

Yeah, the whole “never let a crisis go to waste” thing can only get you so far, and last I checked, they didn’t bother with disinformation with the Cuban Missile Crisis at all (and believe me, if they wanted to, they most certainly could pull off a disinformation campaign regarding that, especially when that one was clearly a crisis. Heck, they turned Che Guevara into a leftist hero even though he if anything nearly caused a massive black stain on the Soviets’ reputation for trying to start a nuclear war.). And other than saving their hides from getting caught, I really fail to see how it would have been even remotely necessary for the Soviets to do a disinformation campaign.

Yeah, agreed. Ronald Reagan may be one of our best presidents ever, but he’s not omniscient. He can’t actually know all classified information that went on.

Maybe so, but the KGB and Soviets took disinformation to a whole other level, practically thriving on it. Ion Mihai Pacepa makes this clear in his Disinformation book (and the DVD if I must point out).
