I used to play to Asia 30 years ago
JFK to Tokyo to HK
or San Fran to HK To Singapore
Once flew JFK to Heathrow to Delhi to Singapore
For heck of it
Singapore Airlines Heathrow to Singapore
Forward Cabin
A bucket list thing before I knew what that was
In 2011 I took a Thai Airways from LAX to Bangkok non stop, 17 hours. Unfortunately they stopped the flight, wish they’d start it back up. However, I did not really notice any difference between a 17 hour flight to BKK or the DFW/HKG 14 hour flight, with both your rear end suffers.
Good Lord, I can barely tolerate the 5-6 hour flights to the mainland unless I pay extra $$ for legroom.
In the good days before the TSA, I would fill a water bottle with white wine and sip myself into a doze.
Now, I writhe within 1 hour without seat room. Cannot pay for 1st class, so just stay home and stick with inter-island hops.
Really debating whether I should spring for first class to get upstairs, before everyone quits flying the big one.
I get pissed off just flying Tokyo to California; Tokyo to Dallas really gets on my nerves. I get stir crazy if I’m not doing things, and not doing things is all there is to do on a plane. These ultra long flights would just kill me, seeing as I have such a hard time sleeping on airplanes too.
As a widebody CPT I can only say I’m glad I’m not operating it.
I am so glad I don’t make those overseas flights any more...and could not imagine 18 hours in the air.
Can’t imagine sitting on a plane that long. Four hrs. is my max.
