We moved to Panama City from the country in 1951. We lived in Drummond Park which was a working class neighborhood. The complex was built in WW 2 for workers at the Wainwright shipyard. Although they were built quickly they were solid frame houses, most of them 3 bedroom duplexes next to another 3 bedroom.
A few people gave candy but a few gave nothing. Some gave saltine crackers. Us kids got together and told each other who was giving out the best stuff. I don’t think any of us had costumes. Someone was giving out popcorn balls which we thought was the best to get.
Even tho times were getting better, it was still fairly hard times.
Oh yeah. There was a house down the street that always gave away apples. I have nothing against apples, but they are not right for Halloween. The word got around quickly, and the kids decided their time was better spent elsewhere at more productive houses.
Pop corn balls... yummmmm
