Sessions pushes back on calls for Clinton special counsel
The Hill ^ | November 14, 2017 | Katie Bo Williams

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday pushed back on the immediate need for a second special counsel to investigate former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

It would take "a factual basis that meets the standard of a special counsel" for the Justice Department to make such an appointment, he said during a heated exchange with Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) at a Tuesday House Judiciary Committee meeting.

Jordan made a fiery case for allegations of improper spying on the Trump campaign by the Obama administration DOJ that widely touted amongst Capitol Hill Republicans.

Sessions at first demurred, noting that Comey is no longer the director of the FBI and praising the current director, Chris Wray. But pressed further by Jordan — "He's not here today, Attorney General Sessions, and you are" — Sessions appeared to throw cold water on the immediate need for a special counsel.

"I would say 'looks like' is not enough basis to appoint a special counsel," he said sharply.

No, he’s not. But if we loose the House, you can forget about any further congressional investigations of any Democrat.

Sessions’ DOJ maintains a double standard as deep as the Mariana Trench. Mueller was appointed without any crime having been committed or even alleged. He has been given unlimited scope and a secret unlimited budget. It is a dirty operation from start to finish.

Meanwhile Sessions gives an unlimited number of actual, established crimes a total pass. There is no behind the scenes investigation. There is just fundamentally-dishonest Sessions defending a double standard so absurb, it would make many Democrats blush.

The Mueller thing will never run it’s course. That is the purpose of the Mueller thing. It locks out the real things.

Trump Tweet: “I will be making a major statement from the @WhiteHouse upon my return to D.C. Time and date to be set.”

I can only pray that it is Sessions going bye-bye.

That’s it, he has to go immediately. If this story is true.

Is Trump really that stupid? I’m beginning to wonder if Trump IS playing four dimensional chess and he’s playing against us. The alternative is that he’s just plain stupid, politically speaking. Well, either that or he’s up to something that has not played out yet and Sessions is part of it.

For the umpteenth time - The Klintons are NOT going to be serving any jail time. Trump is only a president. The oligarchs run this country & make the big decisions. Sad sad.

Hey Jeff, what is the factual basis for the Trump/Russian collusion special counsel?

‘Trump/Sessions need to wait until the Mueller thing has run its course before starting up a Clinton investigation.’

This is Mueller’s hope, anyway. He plans to drag his personal fiefdom/neverending jackpot out for years.

Oh, please, God. Looks like Gowdy is ready to take the reins by his questioning today.

Please, CINC. Give us our rule of law back.

That’s Sessions’ ace in the hole. If he can just stall until the midterms, the GOP may well lose the House, and he’ll be relieved of any pressure to investigate a non-Republican.

‘”I would say ‘looks like’ is not enough basis to appoint a special counsel,” he said sharply.’

As in’ looks like’ there was Russian meddling. Since when did Sessions invent the new standard for special counsel?

"I would say 'looks like' is not enough basis to appoint a special counsel," he said sharply.

It was for Mueller's appointment. Which means you should immediately terminate it.

Complimentary article just out:

http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/360265-judiciary-chairman-hints-at-dissatisfaction-with-sessions

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) zeroed in on his demands for a second special counsel in the first five minutes of a hotly-anticipated oversight hearing with Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday morning.

“I have chosen, as chairman of this committee, to let special counsel Robert Mueller do his job, free from undue political influence,” he said in his opening statement. “At the same time, however, this committee will do its duty and conduct oversight of DOJ [Department of Justice].”

Hinting at dissatisfaction with Sessions, Goodlatte referenced a pair of requests that the Justice Department name a second special counsel to investigate the Obama Justice Department’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

“You have recused yourself from matters stemming from the 2016 election, but there are significant concerns that the partisanship of the FBI and the department has weakened the ability of each to act objectively.”

The Mueller thing will never run it’s course. That is the purpose of the Mueller thing. It locks out the real things.

The Iran-Contra special prosecutor ran from 1987 to 1993, seven years! It was finally put to rest after Bill Clinton got elected because the democrats no longer needed it to do hatchet jobs on a Republican administration.

Assuming Trump serves two full terms, it wouldn't surprise me if Mueller still wasn't going on fishing expeditions in 2024

I hope President Trump is watching the Keebler Elf’s despicable performance. I keep noticing how congenial he’s been with the Democrats and snarky with the Republicans.

When a bona fide statement of dissatisfaction comes from Grassley, we’ll finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.
