Aly Raisman is one of the most accomplished American gymnasts of all time. She's won six Olympic medals, three of them gold, and was captain of the U.S. teams that dominated the last two Summer Games: in London -- in 2012 -- and in Rio last year. She hopes to compete in her third Olympics in Tokyo in 2020. Doing a backflip on a balance beam takes a certain type of courage, but right now Raisman will display courage of another kind. She's sharing a story that's about hard work and athletic achievement, and talking publicly for the first time about a deeply personal and painful part of her life. It's a stunning development for USA Gymnastics, the national governing body for her sport: Raisman told us she was sexually abused while competing on the U.S. National team -- and she says that's been difficult for her to acknowledge.

Her parents' excuse for not protecting her seemed very flimsy.
Not knowing much about this story I would always be skeptical of an older male doctor who chose to work with girls of this age. I’m not talking about a pediatrician, I’m talking about someone who chooses to work with gymnasts of that age. I’m sure the majority are good doctors, but the bad ones are very bad. I wouldn’t trust them.
It’s terrible that a predator was given such a position of authority.
Apparently, the team doctor diddled a lot of the girl gymnasts. It’s disgusting. Girls get on the national team at a very young age and their parents trust the team to care for them. Instead, they turned the girls over to a doctor who was a predator.
I agree - parents allowing so much freedom for their child just begs for abuse and blind eyes. Rule #1, no doctor visits without a second medical person in a proper exam room.
Did Roy Moore do it? If not, it doesnt count.
I feel so bad for them all. Disgusted that this could happen. They were under the team’s care at the time I believe, so their safety was their responsibility. On another note, I am disgusted with the vile comments on that cbs site. Scum.
Another “me too” story.
This is all too fabricated. Just exactly what is the real issue going on today that the media is trying to get us to ignore with all these “me too” stories?
My guess is they want to ignore the single greatest presidential foreign trip ever made since - well since presidents started making foreign trips abroad.
In the end though, the good jobs people will get and the booming stock market will let people know the truth and they will vote with their pockets.
Thougj price-to-earning ratios are getting pretty hefty in some sectors. Earnings are good but they are going to have to pick up a lot more to justify 75x in some areas
Considering how much the Dow has run, 20 times earnings isn’t so bad. But it is still four points above the historical average
That being said it can go to 12 times earnings or a hundred times earnings LOL. I have no idea.
I don’t know anything about this story either but parents need to tell their young daughters some hard truths about the world and let them know they will have their backs. There should have been a chaperone present during those exams/treatments too. A female nurse for instance.
This predator appears to be very practiced in his abuse over the past 20 years - just found this story that came out last February - very shocking how many girls tried to get parents & officials to listen to no avail.

“...In a controversy with parallels to the Jerry Sandusky sex-abuse scandal involving Penn State, Dr. Larry Nassar is a former Michigan State University faculty member accused of abusing young women for most of his career. In addition to working at MSU, Nassar was a high-profile sports-medicine doctor who went to four Olympic games as team physician for U.S. gymnasts....”
So many Cesspools, so little time. So many nooses waiting to be used.
Ever since learning about “olympic Village” I’ve been turned off by the whole thing.
That was my first thought as well. How do you leave an adult male doctor in a room alone with these girls? A couple years ago I had to drive three Officer Candidates around a course for land navigation. As soon as I saw that the candidates were all female, I told a female fellow Officer to get in the van with me. There was zero chance I would be anywhere in a training environment alone with female candidates if it could be helped.
I just don’t get it: there is no need for digital insertion into the vagina to treat a twisted ankle. And yet theses gymnasts allowed it and never told anyone.
I thought this was common knowledge, but the doc in question fingered many young girls, it looks like, under the guise of treating their legs/ankles/knees.
Absolutely!
I agree, but I read that hip and pelvis problems were the stated excuse. These were very young teens in Olympic gymnastics, poorly protected, and for the older teens, no one seems to have given a rat’s patoot about what they went through (I bet this isn’t limited to just the girls either). Michigan State should be criminally liable for doing nothing but Gang Shaming the victims.
BOTTOM LINE: PARENTS, DON’T TRUST THESE PEOPLE ALONE WITH YOUR PRECIOUS CHLD. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANYONE OR ANYTHING BUT THEIR OWN NARCISSISTIC SELVES. (most of athletics has degenerated right along with the rest of the culture).
