Wikipedia sez both have a SLAP (sabot light armor penetrator) round available. The 14.5mm being made by the Chinese. Both will do a number on most vehicles on the battlefield.

Uhh...I mean Da!

Oh yeah... Head space and timing. Two very important checks on this weapon. Has to be rechecked after it gets hot too.

MG42 had great rate of fire, but a much smaller anti personnel 8mm round. M2 could shoot through buildings, vehicles, trees etc. 1-2k away and render it them to trash and anyone in or behind them.

Warm fuzzy feeling was an M113 APC pulling up to the line of a rice paddy letting loose with M2 and 2 M60's after being pinned down.

YEP; the MG-42 was easy to tote and you could hide it behind a block wall or in a fighting hole, then you just had to wait.
WHILE MA DEUCE CHEWED THROUGH YOUR COVER AND ATE YOU ALIVE.
