Additional remains have been discovered of Sgt. La David Johnson who was killed in the October 4 ambush by ISIS fighters in Niger, according to a US official. Another US official confirmed to CNN that the remains were bone fragments.
The remains were recovered on November 12 by a US military and FBI team that traveled to the area. Johnson's family was notified on Monday the official said.
"On Nov. 12, 2017, a joint US Africa Command military investigation team discovered additional human remains at the site where Sgt. La David T. Johnson's body was recovered following the Oct. 4 attack," a statement released by Pentagon spokesperson Dana White on Tuesday said.
"Today, we can confirm that the Armed Forces Medical Examiner has positively identified these remains as those of Sgt. Johnson."
There has been no public disclosure about whether these additional remains will provide any clues about Johnson's death or what happened to his body during the 48 hours he was missing.
US officials are also investigating local eyewitness reports Sgt. Johnson was found with his hands tied, a defense official told CNN earlier this month, though the US military has not confirmed those accounts

Mutilated, dismembered. That’s why they didn’t want the spouse to view the body when it was initially sent back. Wasn’t much to be identifiable.

I thought it strange when Obama silently and suddenly sent our forces there. Maybe it was necessary, but with Obama, one never knew what the real intention was.
With all due respect to the deceased...Africa is astonishingly efficient in the disposal of protein. Fully realizing how repulsed many will find this statement.
Part of me wishes the government would release this information in a timely manner. Let the American people know what we are fighting. Maybe make the people take a stand, either we get out and let these animals take over. Or we let loose and kill 90% of everyone carries a gun and decides to pray 5 times a day to Mecca. And for those who say not all muslims are to blame, well, I don’t see hundreds of thousands of muslims marching saying the militants are wrong.
I think that holds true with many parts of the US where meat eaters are abundant. Couple years ago it took a deer carcass 3 days to be reduced to nothing but hairs from it’s hide strewn about. It’s quite common to find such remnants in the spring back in the deep woods - 100% gone except for some fur. With birds it’s a collection of feathers.
They were lucky they found fragments of Sgt Johnson. May he RIP.

I'm a realist, always have been.
And because I'm a realist and know the facts of life, it makes me wonder if perhaps these were "recovered" remains, as in the head or a portion of the body taken as a trophy, stored and either taken back or given back.
Certainly more to the story.
I lament the fact that this young man, in what was probably a horrific death, became a pawn of politics and that despicable rodeo clown should be called out again for her disgusting lies.
Not all that unusual. The FBI maintains offices around the world, ostensibly for “law enforcement liaison”. Realistically to act as a spy agency.
