Back then, attention from a gentleman was a compliment, but attention from a lech never was. The difference between then and now is...that a gentleman is someone with high status, from whom the woman wants attention, and a lech is a low-status man, from whom the woman does not want attention.

It seems stature is the controlling factor only in the movies these days. My experience is that a gentleman was raised to honor God, respect his elders, and control his lusts. In this generation, and in the generation prior, more gentlemanly behavior has been shown by the common man than by those possessing status. And, as shown by the sex scandals being uncovered daily, those with stature are among the most lecherous to be found. The time where wealth also meant "good upbringing" has passed.
