They turned Churchill out almost the minute the war was over.

What character did he play in True Romance?

Clarence the Pimp. A white thug who thinks he’s black.

I assumed he was a liberal like the rest but...

Oldman is a self-described libertarian.[127]....

Some media outlets reported that Oldman was unhappy with the finished product of The Contender (2000) because DreamWorks had edited the film to reflect pro-Democratic leanings, stirring controversy. The claims were declared sloppy sensationalism by Oldman's manager, Urbanski, who summarized that Oldman was "the least political person he knew", that "neither he nor Oldman had made the statements attributed to them," that they had "produced the film every last cut and frame," and that "DreamWorks did not influence the final cut or have anything to do with it."[136] It has been suggested that Oldman was blacklisted in Hollywood for several years as a result.[137]

In an interview in the July/August 2014 issue of Playboy magazine while promoting Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Oldman criticized what he saw as excessive political correctness in American media and the entertainment industry's own discriminating hypocrisy, while arguing in support of former controversial celebrities Mel Gibson and Alec Baldwin. He stressed that he did not relate with most of their viewpoints but regarding the former agreed, "Gibson is in a town that's run by Jews"[138] (referring to Hollywood). After criticism from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), Oldman apologised to them in an open letter.[139] ADL director Abraham Foxman acknowledged that Oldman was remorseful, but felt his letter was insufficient and asked for "a little more introspection, a little more understanding and a little more education".[139] Oldman then made a public apology on the 25 June edition of late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where he stressed that he was "profoundly sorry" for his "insensitive, pernicious and ill-informed" remarks.[140]

What I love about FR is that people often use polysyllabic words in the most natural and efficacious manner, sometimes without even having to ponder about it.

We are an erudite bunch!

Well...that’s not QUITE a “conservative”, but, compared to the rest of Hollywood, it’s a start. LOL!

They might as well push “Darkest Hour” into 2018 for general release. It’s been in “limited release” for a couple weeks now, which means about 3 showings per day outside New York and Los Angeles.

But pushing it to general release a week after Star Wars comes out? Talk about setting it up for failure!

Within about 10 miles of me, there are 5 multi-plex theaters with a total of about 60 screens. My guess is that 40 or more of those screens will be Star Wars and nothing but until at least Christmas. Add to that the fact that with this new wave of reclining seats in theaters, the capacity of those 60 screens (even adding in the 10 new ones opening this weekend) is maybe 75% of last year, so more screens, less seats. Doesn’t give much oxygen for anything else coming out, does it?

People like me will be waiting at least a week to see Star Wars (less competition for seats) and maybe making an afternoon of it, by seeing Darkest Hour the same day.
