I know one thing that bothered me was the thick english accents made it difficult to understand what they were saying sometimes. I picked up enough to know what was generally going on but it was still a distraction.

I'm old so I watch everything with closed captions. It definitely makes it easier to understand what they're saying.

I started using closed captioning with DVD's. I got tired of turning the volume up to hear what they said, then having to turn it down when loud music played or the sound effects got loud. I record every TV program I watch, and keep the closed caption option on my cable box on all the time. That way I don't have to constantly rewind the program to hear it again.
