I think the Bannon line of inquiry was just fishing for Mueller. He was probably looking for a perjury trap or some process crime.
I honestly think Bannon has no bearing on this latest turn of events regarding FISA and the flipping of the script.
But yea. Bannon is a dead end for Mueller, and was told to give Mueller the old stiff-arm.
Mueller now has bigger fish to fry. Like saving his own ass.
