Ramsey County Sheriff Jack Serier confirms federal agents have seized dozens of guns and bombs from the home of a student who threatened another student.
Serier discussed the incident at a press conference Friday.
"This had all the ingredients for tragedy to follow," Serier said. "So to be able to prevent that ... I'm pretty proud of our staff."
The student, as well as two adults, were arrested. The sheriff's department confirmed the two adults have been identified as as Lisa Marie Stowe, 40, and Christopher Lloyd Stowe, 41.
Serier said the two have been booked into Ramsey County Jail.
The guns, ammunition, explosive devises, and at least one ballistic vest, were discovered at a home on the 4000 block of DeSoto Street in Vadnais Heights Friday as part of a search conducted to investigate the threat.
"Some people are collectors, and they have this amount of weapons in the home," Serier said. "I don't know if that was the case here, but this was definitely a lot. And the real issue we have on the front end is that some of the weapons were unsecured and clearly accessible by a minor. That's a big problem."
The St. Paul Bomb Squad, as well as agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, responded to the scene. Serier said the Bomb Squad was still at the home Friday night.
The sheriff said the 13-year-old student in question attended the Academy for Science and Agriculture, which has a middle school in Maplewood and a high school in Vadnais Heights, according to its website.
Serier said he could not discuss the nature of the threats, which authorities became aware of in the past 24 hours..
But he said there was no current threat to the public. "But this case does underscore if you see something, say something," he said.
Yep, and so it begins. With the quote “Serier said he could not discuss the nature of the threats” makes me wonder just how serious was the threat. Worthy of search and seizing parental property, or school yard like taunts?
It’s now being reported that the 13 year old’s grandfather has been interviewed. The guns, he claims , are part of a collection.
He also says that the child is autistic.
So, why would parents of an autistic child leave him home alone with all of these guns and ammo?
Because autistic kids are rarely violent?
The parents are negligent.
I’m with the Sheriffs office on this one.
Or the dreaded gas-assisted receiver firearms that Sen. heinrich was speaking of.
p
Me too. The ATF has been known to be pretty loose with facts in the past.
They cannot wait to post the pictures, news media hyperventilating for sure.
