I’ve been listening to the reports too. First thing I wondered about was the quality of the steel too.

There wasn't much steel in that bridge. The design was to be a suspension bridge, but the suspension cables were not yet connected. I don't think that there was even an I beam under that concrete bridge structure.

What a tragedy. Hard to fathom why they didn’t do some sort of traffic diversion until all the supports were up.
