Does anyone have any advice for me ?
I intend to have a ton of still photos and MAYBE more than a few videos.
How do I even GET a cloud ?
Thanks in advance
(yes, I'm logged in with a pancake on my head watching my sister with a moose in the shower)
If you value your ownership of your pictures you might look into whether others can “borrow” your pictures
Admittedly, I'm ignorant.
I have the impression it's some sort of storage place.
If a cloud is not what I want, what DO I do without cluttering up my FB page (which is all politics all the time)
I’m not sure...others here will know, I’m sure...personally I try not to use “clouds”
If you’re using Windows, check into OneDrive or Azure. If you’re an Apple user, try iCloud. (These aren’t actually OS-specific, it’s just who the vendor is). Google Cloud is available as well. Just be careful who you allow to share your storage and be aware that “The Cloud” actually means “other people’s computers”. And don’t make The Cloud your primary storage unless you are very confident you’ll always have access to the Internet, because if that isn’t available, neither are your files.
Cloud = Someone elses computer youre renting space on.
Well, there’s this thing called ‘FaceBook’...........................
You and the moose are in the shower together watching your sister from the shower?
Yep, and thanks. This stuff gets pretty convoluted.
Id set up a NAS on your home network. Do you intend to make those files public? Or are you looking for local storage and quick access from all computers on your network.
Caution: don’t trust important files to the Internet and “cloud” storage.
Isn’t there a private feature to a cloud ?

Google the fappening. Nothing is private.
Get a couple 128GB zip drives, get proper cables to get from cell to USB, must have OTG on yer phone, all real easy.
Um, ‘The Cloud’ is just somebody else’s computer.
I have a smugmug account.
Works very well.
This is a very simple solution and free.
Get Google Photos.
Backs up both Pictures and Videos
Free!!!
“Isn’t there a private feature to a cloud”
They usually allow you to control whether your pictures are visible to the public or are private.
But “free” cloud services may give the operator the ability to use your photos so you will want to watch for that.
The “cloud” is just somebody’s server farm where you are parking your data- google, microsoft, all of those firms have enormous server farms. You are using their hard drives to store your data. It’s convenient, just don’t store your personal info there.
