Using a CLOUD

We'll be on vacation for a month and I intend to heavily document a lot that I would like to organize and arrange after we get back.

I'm basically a surfer but I know there's something called a cloud and I think that is what I want to use and develop.

Does anyone have any advice for me ?

I intend to have a ton of still photos and MAYBE more than a few videos.

How do I even GET a cloud ?

Thanks in advance

(yes, I'm logged in with a pancake on my head watching my sister with a moose in the shower)

If you value your ownership of your pictures you might look into whether others can “borrow” your pictures

Isn't there a private feature to a cloud ?

Admittedly, I'm ignorant.

I have the impression it's some sort of storage place.

If a cloud is not what I want, what DO I do without cluttering up my FB page (which is all politics all the time)

If you’re using Windows, check into OneDrive or Azure. If you’re an Apple user, try iCloud. (These aren’t actually OS-specific, it’s just who the vendor is). Google Cloud is available as well. Just be careful who you allow to share your storage and be aware that “The Cloud” actually means “other people’s computers”. And don’t make The Cloud your primary storage unless you are very confident you’ll always have access to the Internet, because if that isn’t available, neither are your files.

Cloud = Someone else’s computer you’re renting space on.

If you’re an Apple user, try iCloud

Just FYI, iCloud is hosted in the Google Cloud, which offers more flexibility.

Id set up a NAS on your home network. Do you intend to make those files public? Or are you looking for local storage and quick access from all computers on your network.

Caution: don’t trust important files to the Internet and “cloud” storage.

I hope moose does not bite her.
I stay away from the cloud and take extra sd cards for photo storage. You could also take some thumb drives to store documents on.

“Isn’t there a private feature to a cloud”

They usually allow you to control whether your pictures are visible to the public or are private.

But “free” cloud services may give the operator the ability to use your photos so you will want to watch for that.

The “cloud” is just somebody’s server farm where you are parking your data- google, microsoft, all of those firms have enormous server farms. You are using their hard drives to store your data. It’s convenient, just don’t store your personal info there.
