I have never understood those who dislike/hate cats. Especially those who champion dogs to the exclusion of other pets. We currently have both a dog & cat. Over time, we've had cats, dogs, chickens, rabbits and a tortoise. All domestic animals have shared characteristics, primarily liking people & needing human companionship.

While a dog's devotion is obvious, cats are no slouches either. Our cat is actually somewhat more affectionate than our dog. Our dog likes his attention, walks & play, but our cat positively pines for attention. He's primarily an outdoor cat who is an accomplished killer (rodents & birds being his primary prey) and could easily live on his own. Yet, he howls to be let in after dinner so that he can hang out and sleep (on my lap) until he goes back out later for the night.

Cats are fascinating - you have a real live mini tiger cruising around the property. If they were anywhere near the size of say a German shepherd, they would be way too dangerous to be allowed to live in society.
