I think a majority of Jewish doctors under 45 joined the service in WWII

My comments were not meant to slur the Southern Culture. It was just to point out that some antisemitic miscreants like to ones I mentioned would use Jews in the antebellum South as evidence that the Jews profited from slavery more so than others and therefore deserve to be vilified accordingly.

The USA has nothing to be ashamed of for its past where people may have verbally dscriminated againstJews or blacks or whatever, what matters is how people learnt -- the greatest generation may have grown up with some prejudice to hispanics, Italians, Jews, blacks etc. but they overcame it - that's another aspect that made them great, growing beyond the circumstances you were raised in

There was antisemitism in the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s. I never knew. You could find other groups as well. Ethnic and racial bias was far more acceptable than it is today.
And no, I don't mean to suggest that there's less racism today than 50-60 years ago in the US. There is, but I'd be a racist to suggest a fack.
It was a different country back then. Jews were in cities and many of our fighting boys came from very rural backgrounds with a very limited idea of Jews. Don’t laugh but Neil Simon’s play/movie Biloxi Blues explores this. My dad was with the Dixie Division and he was made fun of for being a Brooklyn boy. But when they were all in the jungle together, those boys saved his life because of their skills. I doubt my father could read a compass!
No one here has suggested “erasing history” as you keep referring to it.
