Failure to retain position/ear.

I am being simplistic, but is the last line telling of negligence in treating or moving McMaster's father after his initial injury? Perhaps failure (perhaps deliberate) to immobilize head and neck on a head trauma resulting in death?

I don’t know enough about the injury from the fall to know. It seems to me if he had enough blunt force trauma to the head, they wouldn’t sit him in a chair and just leave him there.

Sounds very fishy to me!

I suspect that the reference “failure to retain position/ear” is pointing to McMaster’s “failure” to stay in the position of influencing the president. McMaster no longer has the president’s ear.
