Nope. I was trained on AR variants but if I am in a home defense situation it's a Mossberg 500 loaded with 00 and/or the trusty .38 / .357 revolver. When your heart rate is high, confusion may be an issue, and it's a life and death situation, you do not want a jam, a light round, "weapon status" or "sight" issues.

Amen. My first grab is my "nightstand" 15-round 9mm semi-auto with tactical light (with a 30+ round mag as a refill). If I have to retreat, I fall back to a loaded Mossberg semi-auto 12 gauge, with 2-25 round quick-access pouches for reloading.

Between the 2, there is enough firepower to back even the most determined B&E specialists off...

So you’ve provided an alternative, which can be effective. What exactly are you disagreeing with though?

The AR is a fine platform. But, I agree with you: For me, in a home defense situation I’d go with the Mossberg 500 with 00-Buck and either a .38/.357 maqnum or a Glock 19 in 9mm. However, I would not feel uncomfortable using an AR.
