Oregon principal posts video stating bullied kids ‘tend to annoy people’

An Oregon school principal is being accused of “victim shaming” by some parents.

Some parents of children at Centennial Elementary School in Scio say recent remarks by the principal on bullying are offensive.

In a YouTube video, Luke Zedwick stated victims of bullying tend to provoke bullies and must be taught to be “less annoying.”

Zedwick has a YouTube channel full of parenting advice. On April 10, he acknowledged that what he was about to say was controversial, and then in a six-minute video he made statements including, “In my experience the kids who get bullied are not really good friends. They're not good at being a friend. They tend to annoy people, maybe without knowing it, but usually they do know it."

He then stated how parents should handle children who are being bullied.

“So if you find your kid being a target, one thing you could do to help them, separate from the bullying, is you can help them learn not to be annoying,” Zedwick said.

See, one of the big problems with Home Schooling, is that kids then miss out on just this sort of wonderful “socialization”.

This principal is basically trying to put the responsibility for what happens in his school back on the parents, because he doesn't want to be bothered.

Do we really have a problem with the idea? There is no magic bullet to cure the situation, but this isn’t an all bad idea. Parents in many cases are the cause of their children’s being bullied or not ...........

Your “because” is a big assumption.

There are some students that provoke others and then claim they are being bullied.

There is a huge problem of tolerance being a one way street. Certain sexual preferences, religions, races, and political beliefs receive special treatment while discriminating against others both by the other students and the school.

Toss in athletes and being attractive sometimes receiving favored treatment both by other students and the school and it is tough to judge based on a short article.

Mnay kids have social problems because they’re suffering some form of abuse or neglect at home.

And of course any boy raised without a father, as is so common these days, is almost guaranteed to have social problems.

Well he certainly is annoying, so by his standards he deserves it.

In my opinion he is so annoying that some parent might just punch his reset button...............repeatedly. I know I would if I had a child being bullied under his 'professional supervision'.

If it's one thing I've learned it's that on the whole, those 'professionals' in our schools that have been university edjumacated in child care and child psychology are the most ignorant, condescending, arrogant asses on Earth and are guilty of malpractice. Corporal punishment should be brought back............not just for the students!

And then there are the bullies that are bullies because of bad situations at home.

I took sh*t from kids after a move. I was quiet and small. They knew I was an easy target because I hadn’t built up any connections yet. All of them were from troubled homes in one way or another.

I put up with it for years until middle school - on the way home they pushed to far and I literally kicked the front teeth out of one of them after blacking out in a rage.

Never had a problem again. The guy I kicked and I ended up ok friends, not great, but ok.

This guy shouldn’t be working with kids.

I remember a bullying case from when I went to school-—YEARS AGO-—because of the way she looked and the clothes she wore.

It was brutal-—and it was NOT a public school.

That’s what was wrong!

My evil parents wouldn’t hold me back in school a year, so I’d be in classes with kids my own age, and also refused to convert to Mormonism.

Sorry. I forgot size. It applies to small and large. I remember one girl in middle school who was made fun of because her breasts were small.

Middle school was a tough age. Kids were really brutal to one another. High school was a little better because a thin layer of veneer was forming.

I have always hoped I never have to go to prison. a nursing home, or high school. So far I have avoided 2 of 3. :)
