I liked your rant about the RAD people, and followed it real well, but even though I should know what it is, I can’t seem to summon up what RAD stands for exactly. Thanks.

Reactive Attachment Disorder. I often just say "Attachment Disorder." But RAD is quicker to type. LOL.

Here's the best book we know on the topic by a couple of great Christian professionals:

https://www.amazon.com/Attachments-Why-You-Love-Feel/dp/0785297375/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1524658728&sr=1-1&keywords=attachments+why+you+love%2C+feel%2C+and+act+the+way+you+do

It's one of the books Qx would give to everyone on the planet, if he were able to. It includes several points toward helping overcome the syndrome for those determined and perceptive enough to seek wholeness.

Qx was talking to one of his colleagues at the college about the topic one day. Qx asked the aged prof what percentage of the general population the colleague thought were afflicted with RAD. The colleague gave the routine standard answer that so much of the research seemed to indicate was the case--i.e. 20%.

Qx objected and said he thought it was 85-95%. Then they discussed definitions. Qx noted that if someone had chronic troubled home, work and social relationships, they likely had significant RAD. The colleague agreed. Then he thought a bit and agreed that it was likely 80% or higher.

Qx had just noticed in his own intro to psych classes and overseas in his English classes, it was a very rare class that had MORE than 1 student who did NOT have serious degrees of RAD. And, that most classes did NOT have a single person that free of RAD. It was an extremely rare class that had 2-3 students without significant RAD. And NO classes ever had more than 3 students without significant degrees of RAD.

Out of 35 students, 3 without significant RAD would work out to about 8.5%. 35 students with 1 student without significant RAD would work out to 0.2% if my feeble math is accurate.

Intro to psych classes are a reasonable approximation of the general population in most respects.

It turns out that MRI studies have confirmed that serious levels of RAD result in literal physiological brain damage in two brain regions: those having to do with (A) emotional expression and (B) management of relationships.

We can see evidence of both in most of the prickly, obnoxious, 2 year old fit-throwing sorts of posts the contrarian trollish posters post.

The RAD hole left in their psyche's, spirits, hearts by inadequate parenting the first 6-8 years--Qx feels it is most often seriously inadequate fathering--results in the individual struggling with a sense of worth etc. over the whole of their lives.

That results in vain persistent efforts at:
--perfectionism;
--!CONTROL! freakism--trying to batter one and all into their sensibilities and constructions on reality;
--constant proving their manhood/womanhood is superior to that of all others regardless of evidence to the contrary;
--repeated !DEMANDS! that others kowtow to their fussed up constructions on reality--bow to their 'superior' views, kiss their rears etc;
--or face hostile, condescending outrage and chronic insults; chronic whining; chronic complaints; chronic attacks; chronic pretense that THEY are uniquely wonderful and 'more equal,' loftier than their 'lessers.'

We feel the topic is sooooo crucial to the welfare of the body politic; the culture, families and particularly growing children that we somewhat compulsively attempt to take every opportunity to mention the part it plays in human relationships in our era--online and off.

Thanks for your comment.
