Here’s every superhero movie coming out through 2020

Now that you’ve seen Avengers: Infinity War, here’s when you’ll get your next superhero fix. And the one after that. And the one after that. Studios have announced a whopping 14 superhero films to be released through the end of 2019 — and those are just the ones with confirmed premiere dates. The number isn’t surprising considering even last fall’s Justice League raked in more than $600 million at the global box office despite modest reviews (simply put: It’s really hard to fail with heroes). Here’s what’s next from Marvel, DC Films, and Fox:

(details snipped but here's the list)

Deadpool 2 May 18, 2018

Ant-Man and the Wasp July 2, 2018

Venom Oct. 5, 2018

Aquaman Dec. 21, 2018

Hellboy Jan. 11, 2019

Glass Jan. 18, 2019

Dark Phoenix Feb. 14, 2019

Captain Marvel March 8, 2019

Shazam! April 5, 2019

Untitled Avengers: Infinity War sequel May 3, 2019

Untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel 2019

The New Mutants Aug. 2, 2019

Wonder Woman 2 Nov. 1, 2019

The Crow Reborn Oct. 11, 2019

Untitled X-Force Deadpool sequel Late 2019/2020

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 2020

Also in the works…

There are many, many other superhero titles in various stages of development with supposed premiere dates that may or may not happen. Marvel and DC both have untitled films announced for several dates in 2019 and 2020 without titles yet attached.

DC Comics’ stand-alone Cyborg film and a Green Lantern Corps film were planned for 2020 (at least, before the post-Justice League DC Films shakeup; now their fates are unclear). DC also has a Batgirl movie in the pipeline, with Bumblebee‘s Christina Hodson writing after Joss Whedon’s high-profile departure, and there’s a Harley Quinn stand-alone film in the pipeline with Cathy Yan set to direct.

There’s also a Kitty Pryde movie in the works at Fox under the codename 143 with writer Brian Michael Bendis. Plus Fox has a Gambit movie in the works with Channing Tatum.

Todd McFarlane’s R-rated Spawn reboot was reported to start filming in February, and then again for May.

There are also reboots of Green Hornet, Flash Gordon, and others in the works.

I’m over 18, so I rarely attend comic book films, especially now.

You can have decent drama in Hero movies.
You can ask profound questions in Hero movies.
You can explore Good and Evil in Hero movies.

All of that is nice.

But we don’t actually have a lot of movies about how to be Human. How to make a marriage. How to raise kids. How to be good at your job. People want excitement and explosions and cosmic fluctuations from Beyond. That doesn’t help us build a better society.

Look around. Almost no one is living in reality. Almost no one is actually raising the next generation. There are a lot of people completely adrift today — young and old.

Enough with the Comic Book movies. I’m a long-time nerd, and I have over a thousand comic books in my basement. Many science fiction movies on DVD. Large book collection, a good portion of which is science fiction. But I look around I see people who don’t distinguish reality from fantasy very well, and don’t have a handle on personal responsibility. Everybody wants to a victim. Everybody wants someone magical to show up and rescue them.

Too much fantasy in the world today.

I get this feeling we will not see any of this dreck, even after it is on Netflix.

iPhag generation crap, through and through. The audience will be lit up by their little screens of life through the whole movie.

Let me know when they can make a Movie that will explain the last two Alien Movies.

Heck, even that weird Alien 3 made sense leading into Alien 4.

All the heroes offered up today are anything but. Why would I even want to know about these stupid movies?

Glass? Is that a sequel to Unbreakable?

Yep. Also a sequel to Split, since the final scene of that movie established that they're in the same universe.

Where’s the sense of wonder in this stuff. Comic books on film, ffs. There are so many great science fiction stories that do incorporate that sense of wonder and explore the human condition. I’ll take SyFy Channels series The Expanse over any of that.

How about Larry Nivens “World of Ptavvs”? Or Ringworld?

Any of the late, great Iain M Banks work would be incredible.

But no. Comic book crap. Endlessly recycled.
