Since it was first developed three years ago and marketed, artists and manufacturers have shown interest in using the coating to create unique-looking productsa watch from Contemporaine du Temps, for example, designed by British artist, Anish Kapoor, features Vantablack on its dial and minute handit adds a degree of depth to the watch that other watches do not have.

This is useful for when you really, really need to redact something.

Anyone remember Donald Duck’s crazy inventor uncle, Gyro P. Gearloose?
One of his inventions was the “gloom light”. It made light places dark. This coating could do the same thing, using no electricity.

The Hubble telescope has a coating like this on the inside , reducing light scattering inside the telescope.
A good use for these would be solar thermal products, since it absorbs infra-red.

“Blacker than black”
That’s cultural appropriation. I demand reparations!

I wonder what it would be like coating an entire room with this stuff. Floor, ceiling everything.
Then hang a light bulb from the center of the ceiling and stand there looking around.

That,” he said, “that... is really bad for the eyes.”
It was a ship of classic, simple design, like a flattened salmon, twenty yards long, very clean, very sleek. There was just one remarkable thing about it.
“It’s so... black!” said Ford Prefect. “You can hardly make out its shape... light just seems to fall into it!”
The blackness of it was so extreme that it was almost impossible to tell how close you were standing to it.
“Your eyes just slide off it...” said Ford in wonder.
