This is not an accident.

With the Supreme Court decision pending on Janus v. AFSCME (and the status of union dues and fees) teacher’s unions all over the country are going full tilt doing walkouts, demonstrations, strikes, and sob stories like this one. (It is no coincidence we are seeing articles like this, especially from libtard outlets like CNN)

Teachers around the country have squandered any support they might get from conservatives in any quarter by their embrace of anti-gun dogma, resist Trump actions, and support for things like Black Lives Matters.

We lived sixty men to a room (when in garrison) with a common head.
Civilian flophouses (where they still existed with those conditions) were dirt cheap.

$1,715 a month is $20,500 a year. That is his take home pay. This is after insurance, taxes, union dues, retirement, etc.

Assuming that this all adds up to about 45% of his salary, he would be making $40K per year.

Now, after 10 years in his profession, it seems he should be doing better. So, the question is what is preventing him from doing better? Could he move somewhere and get better pay? Did he not get his Masters? Is he not getting his continuing ed pay?

Also, based on my Mom being a teacher, I know they can choose to get paid in equal amounts over the summer, or get more during the school year.

Figuring six weeks off in the summer would reflect an annual rate higher than this...my guess is his rate is another 10-15% higher than stated pay rate. (Meaning you get paid at $50k, but for 46 weeks, not 52.)

I think his pay is low for his experience so he either lives in a low pay district, he had not taken steps to further his education, or he is tied to his district for some other reason.

If his wife makes the same, during the school year their combined income is being paid at a rate close to $100k a year.

That is roughly $40k higher than the median household income.

I am not sure what he is bitching about.

I laugh every time the “free” daycare closes, because it means a few more people will realize that it’s just not worth it to rely on the government to mind your children all the time.

Our local district is closed Wednesday, which means my children will get to play with their friends all afternoon.

Teachers, in most states, are not eligible for SS on their earnings. So, if they are JUST a teacher, they will not get SS.

I think that you hit it on the head. Just another pathetic attempt by the teachers union to push for more money from taxpayers.

A couple of observations. This dude must either be a teachers aide or a substitute teacher, to be making this little after 10 years of working in a school system.

My wife works at a private college. Her take home is half of her gross pay, due mainly to health insurance costs (we are both over 55) and pushing money into retirement.

So is Nick a teachers aide, with no certifications, or he is a teacher that is pushing much of his income out to a 403b, covering health insurance for a large family or having a garnishment taken out.

If CNN wants to paint a sob story, let them look at the paychecks of men that are paying huge child support payments to an ex that spends -none- of it on the kids. And the judges that don't care.

The teacher’s unions are concerned, and they have a right to be. All accounts say that they are going to come out on the losing end of things in the Supreme Court Janus decision.

Which would be a great thing.

I’m a veteran public school teacher. And I’m guessing that there are conservative and liberal teachers in roughly the same percentages as in the general population. At least 40% of teachers I know voted for Trump.

The problem is with the unions. Ultra-liberals get elected to leadership positions over and over again. And that’s due in large part to unfair union election rules. For example, we don’t even get to vote for state and national leaders. They are picked by some committee. And then there are the rigged local elections (the stories I could tell you).

Anyway, I really, really hope that the Supreme Court strikes down mandatory union dues laws. It’s a matter of personal freedom. And it would be a great way to put those corrupt unions out of business.

Agree 100%.

Unions are a pox. It would make me crazy to be forced to pay money to unions, and see them use that money to support radical leftists...which they do.

Teachers do make bupkus in NC, and true that’s his NET not his gross.. sure his net is more than 18k a year. However I don’t doubt he isn’t making much... depending on the school district he works in.

Two things. It’s probably his net pay not his gross and he maybe on a 12 month pay...i.e. Get paychecks all year round even when not working so the pay for 9 months is evenly spread across 12. That said, I know NC pays jack in some districts but it’s more than 19k a year

Yep. We have an ongoing problem with violence in our schools. Every week or so some teacher gets assaulted. So our union put out a position paper...saying how important it is for us to support third-world “democracy” (read socialist) movements.

Not a word about the school violence. It’s maddening.

Where do teachers have a 6.5 hour work day? Students may have a 6.5 hour school day, but I don’t think that teachers arrive and leave with the student bells.
