Celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep, and Natalie Portman have signed an open letter calling for an end to gender inequality.
The stars are among 140 signatories from the entertainment industry, which also include Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Reynolds, Amy Schumer and Thandie Newton, who have shown their support for the campaign, spearheaded by international charity ONE.
The letter is addressed to world leaders, who are told they have been put "on notice" to take action to put an end to the inequality, claiming that it leaves 130 million girls without an education and one billion women without access to a bank account.
"There is nowhere on earth where women have the same opportunities as men, but the gender gap is wider for women living in poverty," the letter reads. "Poverty is sexist. And we won't stand by while the poorest women are overlooked.

Oh my, and I’ll just continue to not watch their crap TV shows and movies.
In my youth, marriage was used to create household-based equality between a man and a woman.
Of course not.
Industrial Strength Virtue Signalling.
“You have the power to deliver historic changes for women this year. From the G7 to the G20; from the African Union to your annual budgets; we will push you for commitments and hold you to account for them. And, if you deliver, we will be the first to champion your progress. We wont stop until there is justice for women and girls everywhere.”
And just what are the consequences if Saudi Arabia doesn’t comply? If Indonesia turns them down? If Iran says no thanks?
Do the Oscars have an award for “Least Effective Virtue Signalling by a Multi-Millionaire”?
Portman’s future as an actress is almost over.
Streep has already made her fortune so she is safe.
Directors really don’t like drama queens.
Good grief.
Hehehehe...Excellent!
Dr. Raymond Stantz: Gozer the Gozerian... good evening. As a duly designated representative of the City, County and State of New York, I order you to cease any and all supernatural activity and return forthwith to your place of origin or to the nearest convenient parallel dimension.
Dr. Peter Venkman: [Sarcastically] That oughta do it. Thanks very much, Ray.
Hey, it’s all of Harvey Weinstein’s old friends.
They still haven’t figured out that the world is not sitting by just waiting for Hollywood to tell them what’s right or what’s wrong.
If you’re over the age of 12, and still need someone like Miley Cyrus to tell you how to run your life, you’ve got problems.
Women are equal in VALUE with men, but NOT equal in ROLE with men.
The demented women's movement is a total rebellion by men-hating and women-hating women who want to usurp the role of the man AND CODIFY IT.
The women's movement is the most destructive social movement in modern history. It has led to the murder of tens of millions of unborn and partially-born children, the destruction of the family, and a lower economic standard of living.
OMG it just happened!
There is equality everywhere from now on and forever more!
Thank gawd for these people, they changed EVERYTHING!
Oh no, we’ve been put on notice! Will we receive a letter telling us how racist we are?
These people are so irrelevant they don’t even know it yet.
Yes. They plan to have another glass of Chablis and a cucumber sandwich.
I saw a picture of her at the (gag) “wedding” at liberal Yahoo.
She’s living large.
Well, if celebrities say so, it must be right. They are our light in these troubled times of darkness and our standard when it comes to a virtuous life well lived. Harvey Weinstein was unavailable for comment.
I feel bad about the way many, if not most, of the people in the world have to live. I would really like to see the plan people like this have in mind that would fix the problems. I’m sure they just think that the world “leaders” would just have to make a proclamation and throw some money and —voila! — everything is solved. In reality, it would have to make the labors of Hercules seem like a day at the beach.
Well — at least these celebrities can feel good about themselves now, and can get back to life in make-believe land.
They might go to hashtag level but only in the most dire circumstances.
