I’ve got two Shepherds.

I don’t even need to answer the door, because the sounds they make from inside the house convince anyone at the door that they should proceed to the next door just as quickly as they can.

I have two big slobber buckets who have scared more than one solicitor off. Once, told the furbabies to back off and the UPS guy took a step back. Poor guy but we still laugh about it. That may be why he now tosses packages on the drive without slowing down.

Our big newfie didn’t know he could make a sound for the first several years. One night, he went outside with Mr. b and Mr. b heard this deep low growl behind him and thought it was the end until he realized it was the dog spying a possum. The vet wouldn’t neuter him (the dog) because he is so easy going. The cats loooove and rub all over their dog buddies. When they were kittens, they were so proud and pranced around playing walk under the dogs.

You should see my Great Dane. Occasionally, very occasionally, he might deign to get off his (formerly my couch) to mosey to the door to greet somebody who knocks on it. When he and my American Staffordshire Terrier cross are in the yard they usually don't even bother to bark at visitors. Nevertheless, just to help maintain their self-esteem, I keep calling them my guard/attack dogs. It's gotten so bad that I don't even dare to threaten neighbors, delivery people, and trades people with sicking my dogs on them, lest those people laugh at me while making obscene sounds and gestures.
